E) SPECIAL NOTICE. LASER OPERATIONS EFFECTIVE 1100 UTC UNTIL 0000
 UTC. SCIENTIFIC AND RESEARCH NON-VISIBLE GROUND TO AIR LASER
 OPERATIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED FROM THE SURFACE, 1.6 MILES NORTH OF
 THE VANDENBERG AFB AIRFIELD, AT 344513N/1203416W. THE SYSTEM IS
 INTERMITTENT, WITH POSSIBLE OPERATIONS HAPPENING 24 HOURS A DAY, 7
 DAYS A WEEK. THE LASER BEAM MAY BE INJURIOUS TO PILOTS/AIRCREWS AND
 PASSENGERS EYES FOR A DISTANCE OF 6,300 FEET MEAN SEA LEVEL WITHIN
 A 1 NM RADIUS. HOWEVER, THIS SYSTEM USES AN AUTOMATED LASER HAZARD
 REDUCTION SHUTTERING SYSTEM THAT WILL AUTOMATICALLY DEACTIVATE THE
 LASER WITHIN 250 MILLISECONDS IF THE LASER BEAM IS CONTACTED BY AN
 AIRCRAFT. DURING PUBLISHED AIRFIELD OPERATING HOURS AND OTHER TIMES
 THAT THE AIRFELD IS OPEN, THE AREA WILL ALSO BE MONITORED BY AIR
 TRAFFIC CONTROL PERSONNEL AND THE LASER BEAM WILL BE TERMINATED IF
 NONPARTICIPATING AIRCRAFT REQUIRE USE OF THE AIRSPACE. THE
 VANDENBERG CONTROL TOWER, PHONE NUMBER 805-605-7590, IS THE
 COORDINATION FACILITY WHEN THE AIRFIELD IS OPEN. DURING TIMES THAT
 THE AIRFIELD IS CLOSED, R-2516 WILL BE CLOSED TO AIRCRAFT
 OPERATIONS SURFACE TO 6,300 FEET MEAN SEA LEVEL WHEN THE LASER IS
 OPERATING.
